Artist Features: Hangout Fest 2023

In the ever-evolving landscape of the music industry, artists emerge with a fresh perspective and unique sound. Tuned Mag sat down with Mariah the Scientist, Charlotte Sands, and Beach Weather at Hangout Fest in Alabama to discuss what inspires them and what they may have in store for fans in the near future.

With her distinctive voice, heartfelt lyrics, and genre-bending sound, singer-songwriter Mariah the Scientist has swiftly made her mark on the music industry. What sets her apart from her contemporaries is her ability to seamlessly blend different musical styles. Her music incorporates elements of R&B, alternative, and pop, creating a unique sonic landscape that resonates with listeners.

Before diving into a music career, she was studying biology at St. John’s University in Queens, New York. It is possible, she says, that her background in science has influenced the way she approaches her career: "I think my work ethic then is similar to my work ethic now. I'm more of a 'get it all done quietly' and then reveal the work."

With her soul-stirring melodies and thought-provoking lyrics, she's poised to make a lasting impact and shows no signs of slowing down, saying, "I do have a project that's pretty much finished. I'll say maybe 90%. I'm the type to edit it until I feel like it's perfection, even though perfection is relative."

All in all, Mariah's dedication to her craft, unique musical style, and unwavering honesty sets her apart as an artist to watch.

Hailing from Los Angeles, Charlotte Sands has a distinct way of capturing the complexities of human nature and distilling them into powerful melodies and memorable hooks.

On what inspired her recent release Six Feet Under, Sands describes, "I was in a phase of my life where I was really trying to force myself to write songs about having hope and positivity. I felt like I was doing a disservice to myself and to my listeners, by only really writing songs about one side of the narrative when that isn't really true. And I think it's completely human to experience both sides."

Her lyrics explore themes of love, heartbreak, self-discovery, and resilience, resonating with listeners on a profound level. Communicating with fans, she says, is incredibly important to her: "My entire motivation and focus is on community. If there's any show I'm playing, if there's any song I'm releasing, it's inspired by the idea of bringing people together"

Sands' natural talent and undeniable charisma makes her an artist with unlimited potential.

With their catchy tunes and relatable lyrics, Beach Weather has carved a niche for themselves in the music scene, creating a refreshing and invigorating musical experience for listeners. The group embarked on a journey together to create a sound that blends elements of alternative music: "We've all known each other for a long time now, we were in separate bands doing the same thing. I feel like a lot of people don't know that we've been around for longer than it feels like."

Throughout all of their releases this year, they hope each of their fans find something to take away: "I feel like a lot of our lyrics can be abstract and out there, but there's a lot of real life meaning, and I definitely hope people start to kind of crack that shell a little and find a song that they can relate to."

As they head out their tour with lovelytheband, Beach Weather continues to evolve and explore new avenues within their music. With each release, they push the boundaries of their sound while staying true to their roots.
