Fontaines D.C. are pushing further into the warped textures of their forthcoming album Dopamine Chamber with “Tongue,” the record’s second single. Accompanied by a video directed by John Angus Stewart and filmed in New York City, the track finds the Irish band bending its familiar post-punk sound into stranger territory.

Bass distorted to resemble a warped hip-hop sample and Grian Chatten’s vocals processed through a sampler give “Tongue” an uneasy foundation, while screeching guitars, piano and strings gradually fracture its restrained surface. The result is one of the band’s more visceral tracks yet, building tension without sacrificing the deliberate cool that has become central to Fontaines D.C.’s sound.

“Tongue” follows “Marianne,” released in August as the first preview of Dopamine Chamber. Produced by James Ford, the album arrives Oct. 16 via XL Recordings and follows 2024’s Romance. The record will also feature Rosalía, marking the band’s first guest appearance on one of its studio albums.
