LIVE REVIEW: Miley Cyrus Performs for 'MTV Unplugged'

Miley Cyrus's new "Backyard Sessions" edition of MTV Unplugged premiered October 16 in the United States (and will be released internationally in the coming weeks).

With multiple campy costume changes and an impressive stage design, Cyrus runs through a wide variety of covers. The backing band, the suitably named Social Distancers, provided a solid setup for the acoustic concert to bring Cyrus back to her twangy roots.

The special release featured covers of Pearl Jam, Britney Spears, and Velvet Underground. Cyrus puts her own toned-down spin on "Gimme More" by Spears, making it sound brand-new. For a welcome surprise at the end of her set she brought out her sister Noah Cyrus for a duet on "I Got So High That I Saw Jesus."

Cyrus closed the show with a stripped-down performance of her new single "Midnight Sky" proving herself as a powerhouse vocalist even when playing an acoustic set.
