Lord Huron has been steadily releasing new music this year, including the tracks “Who Laughs Last” featuring Kristen Stewart and “Nothing I Need.” Now, the band has officially announced their upcoming album, The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1, set for release on July 18 via Mercury Records. The album, which was self-produced by frontman Ben Schneider, also features Kazu Makino of Blonde Redhead on the track “Fire Eternal.” You can preorder the album now.
Following the dynamic, spoken word-driven “Who Laughs Last” and the upbeat folk rock of “Nothing I Need,” the new single “Looking Back” delivers a haunting, atmospheric sound. Blending acoustic guitar, harp, and cello, the track carries a delicate folky undertone. Reflecting on the song, Ben says, “The weight of your past can distort your present and future, just as massive celestial objects warp the fabric of the universe—like a bowling ball on a trampoline. This song questions whether it’s possible to let go or if looking back is an unchangeable part of life.”
With its diverse range of singles, The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1 promises a compelling mix of sounds, and “Looking Back” adds to the intrigue. Give it a listen below.
