Miley Cyrus returned to the stage Friday night for her first public concert in four years, delivering an 18-song set at the Hollywood Bowl that featured live debuts from her new album, Bass Persuades, appearances by Model/Actriz and The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne, and a tribute to her late godmother, Dolly Parton.

Cyrus and Coyne performed The Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize??” alongside “Karen Don’t Be Sad,” before Cyrus turned to Parton’s “Jolene.” Introducing the cover, she recalled seeing Parton perform at the Hollywood Bowl as a fan, hoping to enjoy the show anonymously. Parton had other plans, playfully calling Cyrus out from the audience after covering a song from Hannah Montana.

“Knowing that I get to share this story with you all makes that night so worth it,” Cyrus said, reflecting on the experience and the enduring presence she feels from her godmother. “I feel her more now than ever.”
