Bruce Springsteen crashed the stage Friday (1/30) at Minneapolis’ First Avenue, confirming rumors with a surprise set at A Concert of Solidarity & Resistance to Defend Minnesota. The benefit—also featuring Tom Morello, Rise Against, Al Di Meola, and Ike Reilly—raised money for the families of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
Springsteen premiered his pointed new protest song “Streets of Minneapolis,” linked up with Morello for a fiery “The Ghost of Tom Joad,” and joined the night’s all-star pileup for John Lennon’s “Power to the People.” Fan-shot footage is circulating below.
Morello also tore through Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name” and led a mass singalong of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” with Rise Against, Reilly, and Di Meola. Rise Against capped their set with a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.”
