With less than a month to go before the release of her third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, Olivia Rodrigo stopped by BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge for a pair of performances that showcased both her latest material and her knack for reinterpretation.

Rodrigo delivered a rendition of her recent single “the cure” — the song she has joked “has nothing to do with the band” — and took on CMAT’s “When A Good Man Cries,” a standout from CMAT’s acclaimed 2025 album Euro Country. Backed by a sweeping string section, Rodrigo brought a cinematic weight to both performances, highlighting the emotional throughline that connects her own songwriting with CMAT’s sharp, country-tinged storytelling. Watch both performances below.

CMAT was quick to react, sharing a video of herself watching Rodrigo’s cover and joking, “she sang it better than me so now im toast . @oliviarodrigo pints ?” Rodrigo responded in the comments with an enthusiastic, “I LITERALLY LOVE U SM,” adding another chapter to one of indie-pop’s more charming artist-to-artist exchanges.
