Yard Act are moving into their next phase. The Leeds band have announced their third album, You’re Gonna Need A Little Music, due July 17 via Island—a record that finds them loosening their grip on precision in favor of something more immediate, more lived-in.
Produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (whose résumé runs from Beck to Wolf Alice), the album was tracked largely live in the studio, split between sessions in Leeds and Los Angeles. That approach bleeds directly into the first single, “Redeemer,” a slow-burning, blues-leaning track that pushes Yard Act further into rock territory than they’ve gone before. It’s rough around the edges in a deliberate way—levels nudging into the red, tension left intact rather than sanded down. If it signals anything, it’s a band less interested in tightening their sound than in testing how far it can stretch.
Yard Act will take that evolution on the road this summer with a run of North American dates.
